All of the municipalities in the pays d’Evian vallée d’Abondance are labeled Pays d’Art et d’Histoire. This label is awarded to local authorities, which engage in the animation and enhancement of their architecture and heritage.
The Maison du Fromage Abondance combines two places in one structure: a cooperative for maturing cheese and the Abondance Cheese visitor’s centre.
After a fun, scientific and sensorial visit, discover all the interesting facts about this valley’s emblematic cheese. From the cows grazing in the Alpine meadows, to the cheese’s manufacture and to the odours of the cheese maturing: you will know all there is to know about Abondance cheese!

The Abbey Church
Appreciate the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church’s architecture constructed from the end of the 13th century. Be amazed by its decoration, tromp-l’œil painted in the 19th century and its exquisite furniture. Access to the church is independent from the Abbey visit. There are no visits during services.
The Cloister
A place of meditation and reverence, let yourself be transported into medieval Savoy through the 15th century murals that ornate the Cloister’s galleries. These works are extremely rare in France, retelling the Virgin Mary’s life and taking you on a journey through the local and Piedmont landscapes.
The Exhibition: “From History to Art: Sacred Heritage of the Abondance Valley”
Discover this exhibition in a section of the old monastery. Explore this religious local heritage and admire the Abbey’s collections that reveal exceptional objects such as a chalice and a 15th century antiphony. There is a screening of a film showing the renovations and conservation of the Abbey and its collections.
Families are Welcome at the Abbey
The Abbey signed the Môm’Art charter and is especially reverent in greeting children and families.
